The Great Basin Institute supports Great Basin Institute at Galena Creek, Taylor Creek Visitor Center, and the Tallac Historic Site, which all help promote natural and cultural resources in the community.

Great Basin Institute at Galena Creek

Galena Creek Visitor Center encourages the understanding, appreciation and appropriate use of the natural and cultural resources of the Galena Canyon area and the Mount Rose-Lake Tahoe Scenic Byway.

Taylor Creek Visitor Center

The Taylor Creek Visitor Center, operated in partnership with the Great Basin Institute, is located on the south shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe approximately three miles north of the City of South Lake Tahoe. The visitor center serves as a hub where four fascinating self-guided trails begin.

Tallac Historic Site

The historically registered Pope-Baldwin Estates at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe are a must see for locals and visitors to the area. The summer estates are currently (2021) open Thursday–Sunday during the summer month’s, the public is free to wander throughout the estates year-round although no services are available during the winter months.
