GBI Statement on Executive Order for Combatting Race and Sex Stereotyping

On September 22nd, 2020, Executive Order for Combatting Race and Sex Stereotyping was signed by President Trump ordering all Federal Agencies, Uniformed Services and Federal Contractors to prohibit diversity training or related training programs that promote “divisive concepts” which are considered “offensive and anti-American race and sex stereotyping and scapegoating”.

GBI is aware of this new Executive Order and we are monitoring its impact on our organization as well as the impact on our federal partners. For the time being, we do not anticipate changing our strategic goals related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – which does not seek to place blame, stereotype or incite “feelings of guilt”.

GBI will continue to forge ahead, with purpose, to create a sustainable Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative while maintaining its mission to advance environmental research, education, and service throughout the west in support of national parks, forests, open spaces and public lands.
