The Institute focuses its research efforts on conservation and management of the inner-mountain west, with special emphasis on the Great Basin and Mojave Deserts, as well as the Lake Tahoe Basin. Opportunities with our program range from but are not limited to mapping exotic species, inventorying plant communities, conducting recreational use surveys, wildlife monitoring, and monitoring and evaluating restoration initiatives.

Native Seed Technician

Recreation Technician, BLM Winnemucca

Rate of Pay: $12.00/hour + Per diem for days spent field camping
Timeline: March 29, 2010 – June 30, 2010
Location: The team will be based out of GBI’s headquarters in Reno, NV. However, project work will occur within the Black Rock Desert – High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails NCA, the entrance of which is located roughly 2.5 hours north of Reno near the town of Gerlach, NV.

Description: The Great Basin Institute is working cooperatively with the Bureau of Land Management Winnemucca District Office to implement route designations identified in the Black Rock Desert – High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area Resource Management Plan (RMP). The RMP identified open and closed routes, including seasonal closures. Invasive Plant Survey, Mapping and Treatment Technician

Description: The Great Basin Institute, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, is recruiting six (6) Research Associates to perform botanical surveys, including GPS/GIS mapping, plant inventories and treatment of invasive plants and noxious weeds in support of the Forest’s Statewide Noxious Weed Program.
